The Blackstone Evolution

Blackstone has remade its business model twice in 41 years. A partnership of dealmakers became a listed platform with a business in each major private market. Today its big bets are multichannel capital, much of it with no end date, and infrastructure, and since 2024 the firm has centralized around Jon Gray.

“If there was any doubt that Jon Gray is now the center of gravity at Blackstone Inc., the past few weeks have erased it.”
Bloomberg, September 2026
